LESS’s Gardener In Residence Service is designed to support businesses, schools and community organisations with grounds to transform them from a maintenance burden to a productive and sustainable growing space, enabling you to better meet the needs of your organisation, clients or students. This could include: supporting after-school growing clubs, producing food for your kitchens, and much more.
We always aim to tailor the service to the needs of your organisation!
How the service can benefit you:
What we offer:
All we ask of you is that you cover the cost of seeds and materials; have a designated contact person for day-to-day activities; a staff member present if we are working directly with children, young people or vulnerable adults; basic gardening equipment available for staff, clients or students to use;
The cost of this service will depend on the exact nature of the work you have in mind, the extent of your grounds, and the existing condition of them. If you are a school, business or community organisation and would like discuss the LESS Gardener in Residence service, please contact us for more information.
The Gardener in Residence service provided by LESS has proved to be excellent value for money for the school. Working with an experienced and qualified horticulture expert ensures an abundant, high quality crop with numerous opportunities for regular involvement of pupils, volunteers and staff.
A dedicated Gardener in Residence ensures we are not reliant on the goodwill of staff and volunteers with many other conflicting priorities. The provision of management during the school holidays has ensured that no crops are lost and the growing areas continue to thrive throughout the year.
Overall the scheme has really ensured that food growing has become embedded at Willow Lane School and has helped us significantly towards Eco Schools awards. I would highly recommend working with LESS to any other schools and community organisations in the area.
