Forthcoming projects (we hope!):
Growing Our Local Food Economy - We are developing ideas and seeking funding for a new project aimed at creating a more resilient and sustainable local food economy.
We also want to develop a community food growing hub providing demonstrations, training, volunteering and education opportunities as well as producing high quality produce.
Ongoing projects include:
Plotting Onwards - We are supporting allotment associations and other community groups across the Lancaster District to develop their food-growing sites and build capacity within their organisations.
Local Food Directory - We have created an online searchable directory containing around 200 local producers, retailers and trade suppliers of local food and drink.
Please contact [email protected] if you would like to be listed or to update your listing in the directory.
Little Book of Local Food & Drink - We have published a free guide to local food, including:
Please contact [email protected] if you can help to distribute the booklets.
Off the Ground - This project (2009-2013) established a community allotment site on the Ridge estate in Lancaster, and supported residents, schools and community organisations across the district to grow their own food.
Food Mapping - This project involved interviewing local farmers to explore the potential for shortening local food supply chains. A copy of the final report (published in 2012) is available on request from [email protected]
Slow Food Lancaster: Celebrating Local Food Cultures - This project delivered three public food events in 2010/11 celebrating Asian, Eastern European and local Lancashire food, and enabled local community groups to develop their own Slow Food projects - growing, harvesting, cooking and eating homemade food together.
