I have a five minute task for the readers of this blog: go online and support our local bakery – Filbert’s Bakery- in winning a ‘Baker of the Year’ award in a national food competition.
Filbert’s Bakery on Kings Street in Lancaster has been nominated for a ‘Baker of the Year’ award in the Farm Shop & Deli Awards 2018.
For those who have not visited this bakery, it offers a range of ‘slow’ bread, pastries and cakes and prioritises local sourcing and high welfare standards- for both the environment and animals. Go check out their tasty treats and then get online and vote by visiting www.farmshopanddelishow.co.uk/fsda18entrants and searching for ‘Filbert’s Bakery’.
The Farm Shop & Deli Awards recognises the very best standards in specialist retail and celebrates the highest levels of service, product knowledge, initiative, innovation and community involvement. The awards aim to highlight the UK’s highly driven and passionate local food businesses, like Filbert’s Bakery, to generate the coverage they deserve.
Entrants will also have the opportunity to win as a Regional Winner. The Regional Winners will progress through to having the opportunity to win the overall coveted title of ‘Farm Shop & Deli Awards Retailer of the Year’, which will be announced at the Farm Shop & Deli Show at Birmingham’s NEC on Monday 16th April 2018.
Winning this Award would help build Filbert’s Bakery as a destination to visit, putting them on the UK map both regionally and nationally, and bringing food tourists to Lancaster.
Nigel Barden, chair of judges and BBC Radio 2 Gastronome commented: “The Farm Shop and Deli sector continues to grow in size and importance, as do these awards, which crucially acknowledge the finest in the field, in both retail and online. They also help consumers track down the finest out there, as these talented retailers continue to push the boundaries.”
Felicity Duirwyn, head baker and owner at Filbert’s Bakery added: “we are unique in Lancaster, and for quite some miles around. We provide good, thoughtful food with an overriding concern for enjoyment and also for the wider environment. Our customers want us to tell you ”Filbert’s should win because [we] are ace”.
